Banana Spiders (SAS Problem)
Nephila clavipes is the only species of golden orb-web spider indigenous to continental North and South America. In the United States, where it is commonly known as the banana spider, it is native to the southeastern states. A biologist isinterested in studying the spiders and collects a random sample of 100 of these spiders. The data set “Spiders” contains data on the length (in mm) and sex of the sampled spiders.
a) Properly load this data set into SAS. Construct a histogram on the Length variable.
Properly title and label your graph. Copy and paste this graph into your document. Present counts on the y-axis.
b) Describe the shape of the distribution of the “Length” variable in context in one sentence.
c) Now construct two separate histograms for the “Length” variable – one for each sex.
(You may create two separate graphs here). Include density curves for each distribution. Properly title and label your graphs.
d) Write a sentence describing the shape of the distribution of lengths for each of the spider sexes.
e) Construct multiple horizontal box plots of Length by sex. This should be presented on one plot.
f) Based your graphs grouped by sex, which sex appears to have greater variability in lengths? How can you tell? Answer in a sentence.
